Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), now more broadly classified as Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG), is one of the most aggressive and devastating forms of childhood brain cancer. It forms in the brainstem, the part of the brain that controls breathing, heart rate, and other vital functions — making it extremely difficult to treat surgically.

DMG accounts for approximately 10–15% of all childhood brain tumors. It is diagnosed primarily in children between the ages of 5 and 10, and it is the diagnosis that took Briana Harper Dolomite from us at just nine years old.

Current treatment options are limited. Radiation therapy is the standard of care and can temporarily slow the disease, but there is currently no cure. Research into DMG is ongoing, and increased funding is urgently needed.
