Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissues, including muscle, fat, cartilage, and blood vessels. In children, sarcoma can be particularly aggressive and fast-moving, as the Slaiding family discovered when Cole was diagnosed just weeks before he turned five.

Sarcomas account for approximately 15% of all childhood cancers. They are treated with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation depending on the type and stage of the tumor.
